Washington Park and The Urban Ecology Center - Milwaukee, WI
Washington Park and the Urban Ecology Center is 132 acres of beauty in the heart of Milwaukee. This historical park, which broke ground in 1892 (it was the original home of the county zoo, to put it simply), was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the landscape architect who designed and supervised the creation of New York City's Central Park.
It has evolved over the last century (and then some), to include walking trails, a lagoon, fishing, sport facilities for basketball, soccer, and swimming, and, opened in 2007, the Urban Ecology Center, which provides neighborhood environmental education after school and community programs for the entire family. On top of that, it looks to be a birding hot spot. I'm looking forward to birding there this spring.
Hours: Open daily, 6am - 10pm
Free on-site parking available
Dogs permitted, on-leash.
Location: 1859 N. 40th St., Milwaukee, WI (Milwaukee County)
