Schlitz Audubon Nature Center - Milwaukee, WI
The Schlitz Audubon Nature Center - what an amazing place. I hadn't been there in years. I chose a cold winter day for a visit. I was unprepared for the icy walks, and one of the volunteers there loaned me her YakTrax to wear so I wouldn't slip on the ice. Such a kind and generous thing for her to do. Without them I probably wouldn't have made it far on the trails.
I walked the main grounds then headed down to the beach along Lake Michigan. Stunning, though a gray day. The water and chunks of ice along the sand were moody and beautiful. I was hoping to see birds or waterfowl, but didn't have much luck that day. That's how it goes sometimes.
Later,on a sunny spring day, my husband and I went back and were greeted by lots of migrating birds, budding trees, and the brilliant blues of Lake Michigan. The center has so much to offer. Beautiful trails, educational programs, summer camp for kids, and more.
