Muskego boardwalk nature trail - Muskego, WI
I took a short rainy day drive to seek out a space to walk and take in a bit of nature. I found the perfect spot in Muskego. There is a woodland trail behind Veterans Memorial Park in Muskego. The park itself is a pleasant 1-acre park that features a playground, and a rentable shelter area. Restrooms are on site Spring-Fall. The highlight for me, though, was the woodlands behind the park, which feature a very scenic boardwalk trail.
The trail winds through Betty's Woods - so named for Betty Czarapata, who spearheaded invasive species management throughout Muskego. The woodlands are estimated at 5 acres, and feature spring ephemeral wildflowers and endangered Crow's Foot Sedge. The boardwalk itself is not very long, but it is peaceful and pretty, and it was the perfect spot for a little rainy day walk. A surprise to me was a small log cabin on the site, and a farm museum building as well. Neither are open to the public at this time, but they were certainly scenic and worthy of some photos. A little research tells me these buildings belong to the Old Muskego Historical Society, and that there are other buildings as well in the adjacent Horn Park. Further exploration for another day.
