pleasant valley park & trails - town of cedarburg, wi
It was drizzling off and on while on our way to check out Pleasant Valley Park & Trails, but the spring-like temps of nearly 60 degrees were encouraging. Once we arrived, we lucked out and the rain quieted. So we headed out on the trails of this 88-acre Treasure of Oz, and were quickly enamored of its beauty. The trail in from the parking lot was straightforward, looping around a large open field that includes a small pond. Surrounded by woodlands, there are hiking trails that go off in all directions of the park. There are mountain biking trails as well. And though I am not a cyclist, they look to be very well plotted out, and appear to be a popular attraction here.
We took the trail that veers off the main loop to get to the boggy boardwalk. It was muddy as could be. And a bit steep in parts. If you wear good hiking boots and prepare to be cautious, it's manageable. My trusty walking stick kept me from slipping a few times.
The woodlands are gorgeous, even in the gray days of late winter. Maybe especially so. I can't wait to see the greened-up beauty of these trails come true spring and summer. Oooh, and fall! Ebird shows a fair amount of activity here, even in the colder months. Spring and summer birdwatching here should be amazing. I intend to find out.
There is a good size parking lot, along with a picnic shelter, with restrooms available in the warmer months.
