Froemming Park - Franklin, WI
On a sunny, unseasonably warm February afternoon we took a walk at Froemming Park, in Franklin. This 16-acre park is part of the Milwaukee County Parks system, and is located near the Milwaukee County Sports Complex. It's also at a perfect spot to connect with the Oak Leaf Trail.
The park itself is perched on a hill, with a great view of the surrounding area. With a bright blue sky I could see for miles in every direction. Features include a picnic area, a reservable picnic shelter and building, a children's playground, a sand volleyball court, a softball field, and a baseball field as well.
Adjacent to the park is the Milwaukee County Parks disc golf course, and, via a multi-use paved trail, the connection to the Oak Leaf Trail. The trail here is pretty even going, and seems a popular spot for local residents to get some fresh air and exercise. Dog walking is popular here, too. The trail passes an outdoor soccer field, and a fair amount of wide open space. No doubt it's more scenic spring through fall, with wildflowers, prairie plants, and trees in full leaf glory.
There are some charming bird houses mounted on poles along the trail. Surely they make good homes for birds during nesting season. We witnessed a couple flocks of geese passing over while on our walk. With strips of hardwood trees, and the Root River off to the west, this should be a decent bird watching location during spring migration, and summer nesting season.
The park is on the Traveling Beer Garden roster. With the open space and expanded view, it looks like a great place to sip a cold pint on a warm summer day.
