Hartland Marsh Preserve - Village of Hartland, WI
The Hartland Marsh is a designated Class I Wildlife Habitat. Located adjacent to a residential area in Hartland, the marsh is surprisingly wild. You'll find boardwalk trails, ducks, herons, and songbirds, as well as other critters like frogs, muskrat, mink, and raccoons.
We entered via the Maple Avenue Wayside parking lot, and took the trail down hill from there. On this spring day the trees were just starting to bud out. Little bits of green sprinkling the wooded trail. We saw several spring migrants - Grackles, Kinglets, Cranes, Yellow-rumped Warblers, a Robin. Cedar Waxwings were a pleasant early season surprise, too.
Part of the walking trail leads up a steep hill to a bench with a stellar view of the Bark River, and the marsh. Perfect for catching your breath and taking in the scenery.
