Riveredge Nature Center - Saukville, WI
The birth of the Riveredge Nature Center dates back to 1965, when the Whitefish Bay Garden Club, a group of 25 women, dreamed of preserving 72 acres of wild land near Newburg, Wisconsin, on the Milwaukee River. Their dream was to preserve the land, and to develop a nature center that would be a wild place for the enjoyment of nature, and the education of future generations.
From humble beginnings the sanctuary has grown to 379 acres, including 10 miles of trails, including hiking, snowshoe and ski trails, wetlands, ponds, a river walk, forest trails, educational workshops, summer camp programs, great birdwatching, and special nature related events throughout the year.
The afternoon I spent there was sunny and clear, if a bit muddy, but the trails are well plotted out, and it's a peaceful place to spend the day in any season.
