Ken Windl Park - Franklin, WI
This quaint Franklin community park had its beginnings as a fire station. The fire station was in service from 1971 to 2001. At which point the station was remodeled to a pavilion, and the grounds into a neighborhood park. The park was named for Ken Windl, who was a recreation director for the City of Franklin, and honors his years of service to the local community.
Amenities include a children's playground, and tennis courts, both available to the general public. Picnic tables, and a gazebo are also available for use. The pavilion is available for rent.
Although the park is small at 3 acres, it is connected to the City of Franklin Bike & Hiking Trail. This 2.1 mile paved trail heads south to Swiss Street, and follows 116th Street right-of-way past Ryan Road intersection westward, eventually connecting to the Muskego Recreation Trail. The trail is tree and native plant lined, with opportunities for bird watching and other wildlife viewing along the way. If you follow the trail to Muskego you can connect to Bluhm Farm Park as well.
