Trinity Creek Wetland Habitat - Mequon, WI
Trinity Creek is 35 acres of restored wetland bordered by both residential and industrial properties in Mequon. Designed to provide floodwater storage, the preserve also serves as habitat for nearly 100 species of birds that either nest or visit here throughout the year. The stream is also a prominent habitat for spawning northern pike.
The trail is simple as it follows the perimeter of the stream. At just about a mile once-around, it's an easy walk. But a worthy one. The day we were there we spotted a Northern Flicker, an Eastern Meadowlark, Red-winged Blackbirds, a Song Sparrow, a Robin, and a Goldfinch. Not bad for an hour-long stay.
We spoke to a woman who visits the preserve regularly and she shared some of her sightings. Herons, frogs, fields full of wildflowers in bloom. The daisies had just begun to bloom the day we were there. I can only imagine how magnificent it looks mid-summer. I hope I get the chance to find out.
Bird watching, hiking, and fishing are common activities here.
There are no amenities on-site.
Hours: Open Daily
Dogs are permitted, on-leash.
Location: 9855 N. Riebs Lane, Mequon, WI (Ozaukee County)
