fellenz woods - west bend, wi
Fellenz Woods is a 160-acre preserve located in the Town of Trenton (West Bend), in Washington County. The preserve features nearly 1.5 miles of undeveloped Milwaukee River frontage, 15 acres of lowland forest, natural springs, and a 50-acre virgin floodplain forest. Ozaukee Washington County Land Trust and volunteers have been working since 2002 to restore 60 acres of native grasses and flowers. In addition they have been planting trees in an effort to restore many of the open areas to native hardwood forest.
We visited in late summer a few years back, and were amazed at the abundance of native wildflowers in bloom. We walked the trails towards sunset, and were rewarded with some stunning views.
The preserve is open to the public for hiking, fishing, bird watching, hunting, and cross-country skiing.
There is a parking lot on-site, but no other amenities.
Dogs are welcome on-leash.
Location: 1630Decorah Road, West Bend, WI (Washington County)
