Cadiz Springs State Recreation Area - New Glarus, WI
What a treasure trove of beauty! This 95-acre state recreation area includes two lakes: Beckman and Zander. Both are prime fishing spots in all seasons. Whether you fish from the dock or out on the lake, there is opportunity to reel in brown or rainbow trout, northern pike, catfish and bullheads. Beckman lake has a boat landing for launching boats - electric motors only. Kayaks and canoes can be portaged into Zander lake. Ice fishing is open in winter as well.
If hiking is your thing, there are about 8 miles of walking trails that traverse the streams, lakes, and woodlands. Relax after your hike at the family friendly beach, which is perfect for swimming and picnicking, too. There are plenty of picnic tables, grills, and two large open-air shelters for day use.
There's plenty of wildlife viewing here. Dragonflies are everywhere. Even cute little bugs climbing among the native plants. If you're into bird watching, this a great location. We spotted lots of birds, including some of my favorites: Cedar Waxwings, Blue-Gray Gnatcatchers, Great Blue Herons, Eastern Kingbirds, and more.
Cross-country skiing is permitted on all trails in winter, as conditions allow.
Fees: Vehicle admission sticker required
Hours: Daily 6am - 11pm
Licenses: Hunting and fishing licenses apply
Location: N2241 Cadiz Springs Road, Browntown, WI (Green County)
