Huiras Lake Natural Area - Fredonia, WI
Huiras Lake Natural Area is another Treasure of Oz. Located just outside of Fredonia, in Ozaukee County ("OZ"), Huiras Lake offers a peaceful hike among woodlands, prairie, and a boardwalk to a short dock on Huiras Lake. The preserve, purchased by the Ozaukee Washington Land Trust in 1999, is 103 acres. A small, but lush, portion of the 435 acre Huiras Lake Woods and Bog Natural Area.
The trails are easy to follow, hilly, but not too steep. Birdsong is plenty, and wildflowers were blooming when we were there. We saw Yellow Warblers, Song Sparrows, Red Wing Blackbirds, and an Eastern Kingbird, to name a few. Located in the rural farm surroundings of Fredonia, a rooster could be heard crowing just minutes away from the trail.
The lake does not offer swimming, however, canoes and kayaks are welcome, as well as your fishing pole.
Hunting is permitted on-site in season. Check here for more details.
There is a small parking lot at the entrance (3-4 vehicles). No other amenities are available.
Hours: Open Daily
Dogs permitted, on-leash.
Location: N6625 Clover Valley Road, Fredonia, WI (Ozaukee County)
