Spruce Lake Bog - Campbellsport, WI
Enchanting. That's how I would describe Spruce Lake Bog. Though Spruce Lake itself is 35 acres, the bog is an easy boardwalk trail.
There are so many varieties of wild plants and vegetation here. Lush and green. Bathed in sunlight, it's magical. I found lots of pink lady slippers, pitcher plants, several different types of ferns, and plenty of wild plants and vegetation I don't know, but can at least appreciate. This place must be a botanist's dream.
The trail is a simple loop, and at one point looks out on Spruce Lake, though its hard to see much with all the plant life growing so tall this time of year. At just over an hour from Milwaukee, Spruce Lake Bog is a perfect complement to a weekend of camping at Mauthe Lake, which is just 15 minutes away.
