krueger park - brookfield, wi
Krueger Park is a 51-acre City of Brookfield park a few blocks south of Blue Mound Avenue. The park features sports fields including: two baseball diamonds, a soccer field, and a basketball court. Also featured are a children's playground and picnic tables. Portable restrooms are on-site adjacent to the parking lot.
The surrounding area includes wetlands and paved walking and biking trails along a floodplain forest restoration project. It serves as a trailhead for the Greenway Trail System (Deer Creek Trail), and the Oak Leaf Trail. Underwood Creek flows between the two trails, and beneath the nearby I-94 Freeway. Woodlands flank the creek on either side, with songbirds moving between the branches. Walking the Oak Leaf Trail out and back, I charted about 1.75 miles. On this rainy day I spotted several Robins, Golden-crowned Kinglets, Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Starlings, Red-wing Blackbirds, and Song Sparrows. It seems pretty clear this would be a good bird-watching trail. I'll be heading back on sunnier days to find out.
