grootemaat nature preserve - greendale, wi
If you check the maps, or search the internet, you won't find much information on Grootemaat Nature Preserve. But if you find yourself at 4300 W. Ramsey Avenue in Greendale, you've found it. The preserve is a woodland wilderness located in the middle of a residential area. Though autumn's peak colors have passed, the preserve is laden with fallen leaves, lots of trees, and foot trails throughout. Though they are heavily leaf-covered now. There's a shallow creek that winds its way through it, too.
If you're a bird watcher, you'll find it a good urban birding space. I saw several woodpeckers, and a Golden-crowned Kinglet on my short walk. The trails are a bit rustic, with lots of tree roots crossing the path. I recommend wearing good hiking shoes. If you're looking for a local space to take a walk and find a bit of peace, Grootemaat Nature Preserve is worth the effort.
