case eagle park - burlington, wi
Word is there is a pair of bald eagles who nest at Case Eagle Park. Unfortunately, we didn't spot them on our first visit, but we did discover a beautiful park along the Fox River in Burlington. Once known as the Ela Property, Case Eagle Park is 239 acres and has something for just about everyone. Bird-watching, hiking trails, biking trails, a children's playground, fishing, canoe/kayaking, baseball/softball diamonds, soccer field, and volleyball.
The paved trail is part of the Seven Waters Bike Trail that goes from Burlington to the Racine/Waukesha County line. There are unmarked hiking trails through the woods, which connect with the paved trail, so you can loop back to the park. We took the wooded trail along the Fox River, all the way to the long bridge that crosses the Fox River, then looped back along the paved trail. It was about 1.75 miles in and back. Although we did not see the resident eagles, we did see some early migrants: Tree Swallows and Golden-Crowned Kinglets. We spoke to a park regular who spoke highly of bird-watching here.
Also located within the park grounds is the Jean M. Jacobson Dog Park, which includes two different fenced-in areas for dogs, depending on size, age and agility.
There are no reservable picnic shelters here, but picnic tables are available on a first-come/first-serve basis. Restrooms are on-site, and available in the warmer seasons. There are two parking areas - One near the main entrance , and the other in-between the dog park and the baseball fields.
Location: 310 S. Rochester, Burlington, WI (Racine County)
