mound zion park - brookfield, wi
I used to work just down the road from Mound Zion Park. This 49-acre Brookfield park is the perfect antidote to a long, hectic day. Fresh air, short, winding trails, and a feeling of being enmeshed in the woods even though a busy street is just moments away. In spring and summer it is lush and green, with wildflowers along both the paved and wooded trails. Deer are often spotted here, and the wild bird action is worth the walk. I've spotted some very musical Rose-breasted Grosbeaks here during spring migration.
The park is part of the Zion Woods Nature Area, and includes a trailhead for the Greenway Trail System (Underwood Creek Trail).
There is parking on site, along with a rentable picnic shelter. It's quite popular with dogwalkers, as dogs are allowed on leash.
Due to the proximity of the marsh area, it can be very buggy in summer. So just be prepared.
