petrifying springs park - kenosha, wi
Petrifying Springs Park is a stunning 350-acre Kenosha County park, with something for everyone. Walking and bicycling trails, fishing (in its 7-acre lake), birdwatching, and a kids playground are just some of the offerings here. You'll also find baseball diamonds, sand volleyball, two permanent outdoor chess tables (bring your own chess pieces), and a historic, lush, 18-hole golf course. Picnic areas, grills, and a dog park, too. There are several rentable shelters throughout the park for special events.
Home to one of Wisconsin's hardwood forests, the fall color along the hiking trails here is spectacular. Winter sparkles here with fun sledding hills for the kids, and snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails, too. There is a seasonal beer garden, and an actual artesian well near the north end of parking lot #1. The water is free, bring your own container.
Summer, of course, is a great time to visit. Wildlife is plentiful here, and wild bird sightings are worth the visit. You'll find signage throughout the park detailing its history, geology, and its environmental features.
It's no wonder Petrifying Springs is one of the most popular parks in the region.
