Helen Rohner Children's Fishing Park - Williams Bay, WI
I recently learned about a great spot to take kids to learn about fishing - Helen Rohner Children's Fishing Park in Williams Bay. The 5.3 acre park is part of the Geneva Lake Conservancy offerings in Williams Bay and is open to all.
Early in March I spent a sunny afternoon in the park, and I was impressed. Located right next door to Kishwauketoe Nature Conservancy, the fishing park includes a boardwalk over wetlands, several fishing spots for kids, a bin for digging up worms for bait, and benches to sit on.
A butterfly garden, an amphibian pond, and a nature-themed children's play area offer more fun for the taking. The boardwalk trail is a great walk anytime, and a great bird watching spot. If you're hoping to enjoy more nature trails, just step past the north entrance of the fishing park and into the Kishwauketoe Nature Conservancy and enjoy the walking trails, prairie, and wildlife viewing opportunities there as well.
Fishing and nature classes, and story times as well, are offered during the summer. Check out their calendar for more details.
The grounds are open to the public on a daily basis, during daylight hours, for nature walking and wildlife viewing.
Parking is available on site.
Location: 159 Elkhorn Road, Williams Bay (Walworth County)
