Grant Park - South Milwaukee, WI
Grant Park is a star in the Milwaukee County Parks system. Encompassing over 380 acres along the Lake Michigan shoreline, it's lushness in spring and summer will leave you breathless. One of the most popular trails in the park is the Seven Bridges Trail, which winds along Lake Michigan, through woods, past picnic spots; and some of the trees, in full leaf, look nearly tropical as a rain forest. The main entrance to this trail is via the covered bridge near South Lake Drive and Park Avenue.
Grant Park's position along the Migratory Flyway makes the park a prime birdwatching location during spring and fall migration, and is home to many feathered year-round residents as well. Check out the eBird hotspot listings to get an idea of the wide array of species that pass through the park.
If you're hoping to cast a line in to catch some fish, pier and shoreline fishing are available along Grant Park Beach. Other amenities include a small disc golf course, and 18-hole golf course, soccer fields, tennis courts, and a children's playground. There are plenty of walking trails, including the Forked Aster Hiking Trail, which winds throughout the park.
There are reservable picnic areas, as well as a reservable shelter. Native plant communities are situated within the park. And a sandy beach along the lake offers swimming as well. The paved Oak Leaf Trail winds through the park, perfect for bicycles and nature walks.
Hours: Open daily, 6am - 10pm.
Dogs are permitted, on-leash, and must be cleaned up after.
Location: 100 E. Hawthorne Ave. South Milwaukee, WI (Milwaukee County)
