mitchell park - brookfield, wi
I paid my first visit to Brookfield's Mitchell Park on a dreary, moody, winter Monday. I was looking for some color, some art, maybe a little inspiration; an easy cold weather walk. And I found it. It's a large park, at 405 acres. Features here are many: a paved walk that connects with the Greenway Trail System, a lowland hardwood trail, a large pavilion, picnic areas, a dog exercise area, and, to top it off, the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center For The Arts resides here as well. What a brilliant space to experience the arts!
You'll also find a sledding hill, children's play area, cross-country ski trails, and an archery target practice area. There's a sculpture garden adjacent to the Arts Center, and additional walking trails just across the road. The Elmbrook Little League makes its home here, too.
Walking the nature trails, with the sound of Red-bellied Woodpeckers overhead, I got the impression this would be a prime bird watching spot come spring migration. The hawk I spotted perched in a tree along the trail confirmed as much. I'm looking forward to returning to see for myself.
