Oerding Park - Oconomowoc, WI
Oerding Park is a 4.7-acre park nestled along the winding Oconomowoc River in Oconomowoc. Located in the midst of a residential area, it's a quiet, charming, small park. Perfect for a family gathering, or walking the dog beneath a canopy of trees and birdsong.
There is a short looped trail through the woods, with views of the Oconomowoc River, and rustic access to the cool, clear water. On the day of my first visit, the weather was mild, and snow melting. I could hear Nuthatches, Downey woodpeckers, and Chickadees calling from the trees. With it's location on the water, this should be a great bird watching spot come spring migration.
The trail through the woods is short, and plotted out with wood chips. Muddy in spots, given the season. At one point I could walk out towards the marshy area of the river, and watch the ducks and geese swim by. I'm not sure that would be possible once the ice and snow are gone. There are bigger parks in Oconomowoc, with more amenities. But if you're in the area, and are looking for a quiet spot for a quick walk, a bit of bird watching, or to relax with a good book, Oerding Park might be just for you.
There is a park shelter available for rental, picnic tables in season, and a small parking lot.
Restrooms on site are available with shelter rental only.
Hours: Daily, 6am - 9pm
Location: 540 N. Lapham Street, Oconomowoc, WI (Waukesha County)
