mount olivet cemetery - milwaukee, wi
I was feeling a bit solemn this past week, so I took my mood to Mount Olivet Cemetery, for a walk, and some memorial sculpture viewing. A peaceful walk in a beautiful cemetery can definitely provide some perspective. Mount Olivet was established in 1907 by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Catholic Cemeteries. It is one of eight Catholic Cemeteries and seven mausoleums they operate in Southeastern Wisconsin.
The grounds are 70 acres, and include both traditional internment and mausoleums. Trees dot the landscape, and songbirds could be heard singing from the branches. Cemeteries, of course, are places for peaceful contemplation. But they are also wonderful spaces for birdwatching. The abundance of trees welcomes both migrating and residential birds come spring. During my walk here I saw several: White-breasted Nuthatches, Robins, Chickadees, Downey Woodpeckers, and Red-bellied Woodpeckers as well.
Location: 3801 W. Morgan Avenue, Milwaukee, WI (Milwaukee County)
