Lions Legend Park I & II - Franklin, WI
This 35-acre park in Franklin has a wealth of features including a paved walking trail, children's playground, a soccer field, baseball diamond, volleyball court, tennis court, and pickleball courts. The walking trail spans both sides of the park, via a scenic bridge over wetlands.
On the Legend Drive side of the park you'll find a bandshell, a historical park with buildings with origins as early as 1836, and the Lions Legend Pavilion. Picnic tables and benches are scattered throughout both sides of the park. On the Drexel Avenue side, is the Vernon Barg Pavilion. Both pavilions are available for rental. Franklin Fire Station #1, and Franklin City Hall are both in the vicinity as well.
On the sunny, late March day I first explored the park, Red-wing Blackbirds, Robins, Chickadees, and woodpeckers called from the treetops. Frogs could be heard awakening in the pond. When I returned, just a week later, after a couple rainy days, the snow was gone, and the spring migrants had begun to arrive. First arrivals included: Northern Flickers, Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Common Grackles, and more Red-wing Blackbirds, just to name a few. If you're a bird nerd, this is a great local spot!
Summertime offerings include grills on-site, and free music in the parks at the Lions Legends Park Band Shell.
Hours: Daily - dawn to dusk.
Parking: Lots available.
Restrooms available in season.
Location: 8717 W. Drexel Ave., 8050 S. Legend Drive, Franklin, WI (Milwaukee County)
