lois jensen nature preserve - delafield, wi
Lois Jensen Nature Preserve is 30 acres of hilly woodland trail in the northern portion of Delafield (named for former City of Delafield Clerk, Lois Jensen). Located about 30 minutes northwest of Milwaukee, this peaceful preserve is a great place to spend some time hiking, and nature viewing. On the very cold winter day I visited, woodpeckers could be heard working away on the trees, and a flock of Cedar Waxwings passed overhead, coming from the direction of Nagawicka Lake. The preserve provides walk in access to ice fishing on Nagawicka Lake.
The trails are somewhat steep, and were very icy. Just something to keep in mind. Sturdy boots and a walking stick came in very handy.
I clocked in at just over a mile when I exited the preserve. Though there were a few trails I could have gone further on. A spring visit will definitely be in order.
Some developments are in progress: The Village of Nashotah, City of Delafield, and Lake Country School are currently working to develop a trail system connecting Dickton Park to the school through the Nature Preserve.
Location: 1400 Vettelson Road, Delafield, WI (Waukesha County)
