Deer Creek sanctuary - new berlin, wi
I made my first visit to the Deer Creek Sanctuary on a gray November day. Though the bold colors of the fall season may have faded, the preserve is beautiful in muted late-autumn/early winter tones. Robins and woodpeckers called from the treetops. My instincts tell me this is a good birding spot.
The Sanctuary is a great example of community conservation efforts. This 47-acre preserve in New Berlin, includes mature oak and maple forest, along with the the Phil Girhring Trail. The walking/running trail clocks in at just over a mile, and is bordered by a portion of its namesake, Deer Creek. It's a quiet, scenic, and easy trail. I'm looking forward to walking it after a quiet winter snow, and to enjoying it during spring bird migration.
The preserve is located north of National Avenue (east of Moorland), at a dead end in a residential neighborhood. Dogs are allowed, though must be on-leash.
Location: 152nd Street/S Acredale Road, New Berlin (Waukesha County)
