WIRTH PARK - BROOKFIELD, WI
Wirth Park is a 96 acre community park, centrally located in the heart of Brookfield. Whether you're looking for a picnic spot, a walking trail, or a great kids playground, Wirth park has it covered.
I first visited on a sunny mid-March day, and wandered along the nature trails, which include mown paths through the prairie, a walking trail through the woodlands, and a boardwalk trail over the wetlands. Park benches are scattered along the way. The mown paths were a bit water-logged at the time, but passable. The nature trails are sure to be great for bird watching as spring and summer arrive.
If sports are your thing, just about every activity is represented here: Baseball, soccer, tennis, skateboarding, volleyball, an aquatic center, an ice skating and hockey rink, cross-country skiing trails, walking/running trails, and biking trails that connect with the Greenway Trail System.
There are 9 reservable picnic areas within the park, some with open-air shelters and a lodge for rental. Picnic tables are scattered throughout the park as well. Summer Day Camp and Discovery Camp sessions for kids are offered during the summer season, registration required.
Dogs are permitted on-leash, and must be cleaned up after.
Hours: Outdoor Areas - Daily 7am - 10pm
Parking: Multiple parking lots available
Location: 2585 Pilgrim Road, Brookfield, WI (Waukesha County)
