Black River Trails - Sheboygan, WI
I've been to Kohler-Andrae State Park many times through the years, but had not spent any time exploring the Black River Trails. I recently visited family in Sheboygan, so I decided to check out the trails afterward. I'm so glad that I did.
Black River Trails is located at the northwest section of Kohler-Andrae State Park. It has it's own parking lot on South 12th Street. Featured are 2.5 miles of hiking trails that pass through open prairie and woodland. The easy walking trails are open to mountain bikes and horses, as well.
Although the prairie wasn't blooming yet, wildflowers were popping up along the woodland trail. Umbrella-like mayapple and skunk cabbage dotted the landscape. Beech trees, conifers and elderberry were leafing out, while ruby-crowned kinglets, robins, bluejays and northern flickers called and scurried from brush and branch. It was clear that this space is a haven for migrating birds.
There are a few picnic tables near the parking lot, but no other amenities. Dogs are permitted, but must remain on leash and be picked up after. A Wisconsin state park sticker is required.
Hours: Open Daily, 6am - 11pm
Parking: Parking lot available
Location: 6167 S. 12th Street, Sheboygan, WI (Sheboygan County)
